We haven’t shared much outside family. Our son Nicholas III “Nicky” is in the Fairview hospital in Minneapolis for a minimum of 4 weeks for AML (acute myeloid leukemia) undergoing chemotherapy and possibly bone marrow transplants. His first diagnosis (pancreatic cancer) was wrong and for that we are grateful BUT I think they owe him at least a vacation in Fiji or some other gorgeous tropical isle to recover from the shock and horror of being told he had 6 months to live and then a week later, “Oops, sorry buddy - you ARE dangerously ill but you DON’T have pancreatic cancer.” The AML came on fast and furious. He went from feeling great and taking hikes with his family the week before to all of a sudden not being able to eat (the tumor was squishing his stomach so not even liquids could pass through). Rosh Hashanah begins the work and Yom Kippur seals it if you are willing to go deep. One of God’s names on Yom Kippur is Chacham Ha-Razim which means wise to the secrets. God knows everything about you, even your secrets, even things you have forgotten, even things you have lied to yourself about yourself. There is nowhere to hide from God. God wants us to be obedient. Consider Jonah. He took a ship to run away from God and was thrown overboard when a storm threatened to sink the ship if they allowed him to remain. Eventually, Jonah ended up where God wanted him – in Nineveh. Jonah also ended up doing what God wanted and was successful, even though he didn’t want to obey and he didn’t even like it when his preaching to the sinful people in Nineveh caused what God wanted – their true repentance. Jonah didn’t think the people in Nineveh deserved God’s forgiveness. He was angry that God forgave them. Jonah didn’t seem to realize how fortunate he was that God didn’t give up on him or

MELANIE GRAHAM'S OBITUARY - MY BABY SISTER

Born in Savannah, Georgia on June 24, 1958 to George William Harrell, Jr., US Army JAG and Annelore Stelljes Harrell, Melanie Anne Harrell Graham passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2015 in her home on Myrtle Island in Bluffton, South Carolina. She spent most of her school years in Germany where she graduated from Stuttgart American High School. Melanie was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Worms, Germany in the Wittenberg Cathedral where the Protestant reformation began. She was an accomplished horsewoman, trained in German dressage and really loved her English riding lessons in North Carolina, Hawaii and Germany. She worked as a hair stylist in Augusta, before opening her own Ardsley Park Hair Studio in Savannah and later worked for Hair Designers on Hilton Head. On April 17, 1982 Melanie and her husband Dee Dee were married in the Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Savannah, Georgia. After her marriage she was confirmed in the Episcopal faith at the Church of the Cross in Bluffton. She

George William ‘Bill’ Harrell, Jr., Col., Retired, United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps died of pneumonia at Hilton Head Hospital on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina on July 25, 2010 at the age of 80. The son of George W. and Lillian Russom Harrell, he is survived by his wife Annelore, nee Stelljes, daughters: Tamela Maxim (Nicholas), Anne Elizabeth Stacks (David), Melanie Graham (Donald), son: Andrew, grandchildren: Claire Pinckney, Matthew and Daniel Stacks, Anders and Anna Catherine Graham, Sydney and Drew Harrell, great grandchildren: Taylor ‘Reece’ Pinckney and River Timmerman. He was pre-deceased by son Jonathan, grandson Adam Pinckney and sisters Lois Rutland and Virginia Bramlitt. After graduating from Savannah High School he participated in the North-South All Star game where he won a football scholarship to the University of Florida and was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
